Education

Learning about and with Amália

The Amália Rodrigues Foundation’s mission is to preserve, study, and promote the artistic, human, and cultural legacy of Amália Rodrigues. In pursuing this mission, the Foundation seeks to bring Amália closer to new generations, fostering knowledge of her work and her historical significance within Portuguese culture.

This engagement is carried out through activities and partnerships with primary, secondary, and higher education institutions, aiming to integrate the study of Amália into educational, creative, and scientific research contexts.

Over time, we aim to expand the number of initiatives and collaborations with educational institutions, building a sustained and continuous network of cooperation. This effort seeks to promote the study, appreciation, and dissemination of Amália Rodrigues’s legacy among new generations, reinforcing her presence in research, education, and artistic and cultural training.

Primary and High School

The Foundation develops projects that help situate Amália within the educational context through formative and collaborative initiatives.

An example of this is the online course on Amália Rodrigues, designed for the NAU platform, which provides educational and cultural outreach content aimed at teachers, students, and the general public.

The Foundation also maintains a partnership with ETIC – Escola de Tecnologias, Inovação e Criação, within which around 400 students have participated in projects focused on the image of Amália Rodrigues and the Amália Rodrigues House-Museum. This collaborative work has allowed the exploration of new visual and communicational approaches, reinforcing the Foundation’s role as a mediator between cultural heritage and the educational sphere.

Higher Education

The Foundation supports academic research on the life and work of Amália Rodrigues, as well as on her cultural and social impact.

This support covers fieldwork, theses, articles, and dissertations, representing a significant contribution to the advancement of scientific knowledge about Amália within the context of cultural and musicological studies.

In pursuit of this mission, research projects, academic activities, and scientific cooperation initiatives have been developed with universities such as NOVA FCSH, ISPA, IADE, Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, and ISCE.

The Foundation maintains a partnership with the Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco. A key aspect of this collaboration is the joint work with the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas and the Escola Superior de Educação, aiming not only to explore Amália’s artistic legacy but also to prepare future teachers to incorporate the cultural and artistic values associated with it into their educational practices, promoting their dissemination among new generations.

Among the planned activities, particular emphasis is placed on the in-depth study of Amália’s repertoire within the Bachelor’s degree in Portuguese Guitar.

The Foundation also hosts a student from the Master’s in Fashion Design for the development of her final project at the House-Museum.
