Over the years, the Amália Rodrigues Foundation has developed and supported various itinerant and temporary exhibitions, in partnership with municipalities, museums, and cultural institutions, revealing intimate and artistic facets of Amália through personal objects, photographs, dresses, accessories, and the collection she left us.

Ah Amália – Living Experience

Ah Amália – Living Experience is a sensory journey through the life and work of Amália Rodrigues.  Through eight thematic rooms, the public is invited to experience Amália immersively, via holograms, 360º projections, virtual reality, and interactive installations, in a path that blends the physical and digital in a deeply emotional way. All content was researched and validated by the Amália Rodrigues Foundation.

Eduardo Malta – Olhares que contam histórias
Museu da Covilhã

Exhibition at the Museu da Covilhã, in partnership with the Covilhã Municipality, celebrated the career of one of Portugal’s great 20th-century portraitists and was on display to the public for one year. The Amália Rodrigues Foundation loaned Eduardo Malta‘s 1949 portrait of Amália Rodrigues, signed by the artist, among the works presented. An exhibition that revealed timeless gazes and personal stories through this master’s lens


RONCA – Mostra de Cinema de Elvas
2025

Elvas hosted RONCA – Mostra de Cinemas de Elvas, dedicated to the relationship between Fado and Portuguese Cinema. The Amália Rodrigues Foundation supported the initiative, promoting cultural decentralization and lending part of its collection to the exhibition “Olhares em Conjunto: Dinâmicas do Espaço no Cinema Português”. Within this scope, a conversation on “Amália no Cinema” took place at the Centro Artístico Elvense, with participation from the Foundation and the Fado Museum, moderated by João Fernando Vinagre.

Initiative of MUDE – Museum of Design and Fashion. The Amália Rodrigues Foundation contributed pieces from its collection, as did the National Theater Museum, which loaned dresses by Pinto de Campos and Maria-Thereza Mimoso designed for Amália, among dozens of creations celebrating Portuguese fashion, its authors, and contributors.

“Dia de los Muertos”
2025

Iniciativa realizada no Panteão Nacional, em parceria com a Embaixada do México e a Fundação Amália Rodrigues, homenageou Amália Rodrigues e Cantinflas na tradição mexicana. O “Altar de Muertos” celebrou as trajetórias icónicas destas figuras através de fotografias, objetos pessoais e elementos simbólicos, unindo fado e cinema num tributo à irreverência e legado cultural.

Bem-Vinda Sejas, Amália
2020-2025

A timeless exhibition designed by the Amália Rodrigues Foundation that toured Portugal from 2020 to 2025 to celebrate the centenary of Amália’s birth. Upon visiting it, audiences journeyed through the fado singer’s shows, entered her daily life and dressing room, and heard her through audiovisual recordings, photographs, press clippings, and personal objects. Itinerant, it visited more than 20 locations from north to south of the country, in partnership with municipalities, bringing generations closer to Amália Rodrigues’ unique legacy.

Temporary exhibition at the Fado Museum, on display from November 27, 2024, to April 2025. Visitors embarked on a journey through images of Fado in Portuguese art, from the 18th century through the eyes of travelers in Lisbon to the timeless legacy of Júlio Pomar, with works by masters such as José Malhoa, Bordalo Pinheiro, Abel Manta, Stuart de Carvalhais, Almada Negreiros, and Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso. The Amália Rodrigues Foundation loaned two emblematic works—one by Maluda and another by Eduardo Malta.

Bem-vinda Sejas, Amália 
São Miguel, 2025

“Bem-vinda sejas, Amália” reached the Azores, inaugurated on June 11 and on display until August 29, 2025, at the Coliseu Micaelense in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel. The Amália Rodrigues Foundation’s traveling exhibition presented the artist’s life and work through audiovisual records, photographs, and personal objects, complemented by original dresses and accessories from Amália appreciated up close by the Azorean public. In the same month, the Coliseu hosted the show “Amália Sinfónico,” featuring Amália’s iconic voice accompanied by over 55 musicians from the Fundação Brasileira – Mosteiros, under the direction of conductor Hélio Soares, and performances by Anabela, Fábia Rebordão, Jorge Fernando, and Rafael Fraga.

If Lisbon is the most sung-about city in the world, there’s no doubt that Amália is the one who sings it the most. The Amália Rodrigues Foundation presents, throughout the month of June, a small exhibition celebrating Amália’s connection to the Santos Populares. From her debut as a soloist in the Alcântara March at just 15 years old, to her recordings with guitar and viola or with orchestra, or even as a faithful admirer of the marches attending their parade on Avenida da Liberdade.

On the 25th anniversary of Amália Rodrigues’ passing, the Teatro Experimental de Cascais inaugurated in its Espaço Memória, in Cascais, the photographic exhibition “Amália, our diva – through the eyes of photographers”. The unique show revealed the fado singer through iconic images captured by various photographers, celebrating her magnetic presence and eternal legacy.

Mãos de Mestre – Mestre Gilberto Grácio, O Legado de Um Guitarreiro
2023

Temporary exhibition at the Centro Cultural Palácio do Egipto, in Oeiras, organized by the Oeiras Municipality, was dedicated to the memory of the legendary Portuguese guitar maker. The initiative honored his career and inspired generations of artisans influenced by his work, highlighting the national lutherie tradition. The Amália Rodrigues Foundation contributed José Nunes‘ guitar, an emblematic piece from the Casa-Museu Amália Rodrigues collection, linking the instrument to fado history.

20 anos de Museu
2023

Group exhibition at the Museu do Vinho Bairrada, on display from September 30, 2023, celebrating the space’s 20th anniversary. The show honored 70 visual artists who collaborated with the museum, exhibiting painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, cartoon, and video art by masters such as Paula Rego, Júlio Pomar, Manuel Cargaleiro, Arpad Szenes, Vieira da Silva, and others. The Amália Rodrigues Foundation contributed Amália’s collection of stage dresses and accessories.

Amália e os média
2023

“Amália e os Média – um ensaio”, temporary exhibition in partnership with Valentim de Carvalho and the Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (FPC), was on display from September 18 to December 7, 2020 (extended until January 2021) at the FPC’s new gallery in Lisbon, with free admission. Visitors witnessed the importance of media in Amália Rodrigues’ artistic career, through the evolution of recording media since 1940, national and international press clippings, studio equipment, photographs, unpublished disc editions, and show posters.

“Amália sob o Olhar dos Fotógrafos Silva Nogueira e Maria Luísa Gomes”, temporary exhibition in partnership with TEC and Cultura Cascais, was on display from March 8 to April 9, 2022, at the Biblioteca Municipal de S. Domingos de Rana.

Temporary exhibition in partnership with the São João da Madeira Municipality, on display from March 4 to December 14, 2022, at the Museu da Chapelaria and Museu do Calçado. Visitors delved into the intimate and multifaceted dimension of the fado singer through some of the 219 pairs of shoes from the Amália Rodrigues Foundation’s collection, the artist’s stage and everyday dresses, 30 hats, and 9 headbands.

Dia de Muertos: Una tradición mexicana en Benfica
2021

Initiative in partnership with the Mexican Embassy in Portugal and the Benfica Parish Council, celebrated the Mexican tradition at Palácio Baldaya. The Amália Rodrigues Foundation contributed photographs and personal objects from Amália Rodrigues, and the Embassy from Chavela Vargas, in a “Altar de Muertos” honoring the two divas, uniting fado and ranchera. The inauguration featured performances by Mariachi Sol and the group “Alebrije. Folclore Mexicano en Portugal”.

Colombo 2021

Temporary exhibition paying homage to Amália Rodrigues, produced by the Amália Rodrigues Foundation, was on display from September 30 to October 10, 2021, at the Praça Central do Centro Comercial Colombo, in Lisbon. Integrated into the national program of the Commemoration of the Centenary of Amália’s Birth with High Patronage of the President of the Republic and sponsorship from Delta Cafés, the traveling exhibition revealed the singularity of the artist as a woman and artist through personal and artistic records. An initiative that brought generations closer to the iconic figure of Portuguese culture.

Casa Ermelinda Freitas and Amália Rodrigues, both born in 1920, exemplify the perfect symbiosis between tradition and modernity in the essence of the Portuguese Woman. This project honors their memory, irreverence, work, and sensitivity through a unique cultural experience: a visit to the Casa Ermelinda Freitas vineyards, wine tasting, and acoustic fado in the “Espaço de Memórias e Afetos”, complemented by a small exhibition of items from the Amália Rodrigues Foundation.
